It isn’t perfect, but what dating site is?

Yahoo Personals Review

Yahoo! Personals (at personals.yahoo) is a very popular dating site from the world’s second most popular search engine provider, Yahoo! As a trusted named brand, Yahoo has attracted over 10 million members to its personals site since its launch in 1997. Their database of members currently breaks down as 64% male and 36% female, with an average average age of 41.

Yahoo! Personals offers three competitively priced subscription plans: 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. All three come with a free 7 day trial. During the free trial phase you can: (i) create a profile, (ii) perform a search, (iii) flirt with other members using the free ice-breaker messages. If you like what you see during your 7-day trial and become a paid subscriber, you will benefit from two additional communication tools, (iv) sending emails and (v) sending instant messages. You may cancel at any time within your 7 day trial and your card won’t be billed. If you don’t cancel within the 7 day trial, you will automatically transfer to the monthly subscription package and your card will be billed accordingly. So if you’re the forgetful type and are are already thinking about signing up for 3 or 6 months (at a cheaper monthly rate), it may make sense to do that right at the start, in case you forget and end up paying the higher monthly fee.

Yahoo Personals Reviews

Our favorite feature of Yahoo Personals was the fact that as a Squamish hookup site free member you may choose from 16 different ice-breaker messages to send. These pre-written one-liners allow you to be a lot more expressive than a mere wink or a smile, which is all you can do as a free member on most other dating sites! These ice-breakers include one liners like a simple “Hi!” to “Wanna grab a coffee?”, “We have a lot in common don’t you think?”, “I read every word of your profile. I’m intrigued, let’s chat” and “Where’s you favorite place to hang out?”. Much better than a simple wink, don’t you agree? Hopefully Yahoo will add a few more of these one-liners as time goes by.

Yahoo! Personals have recently added two new features for added peace of mind: a 6-Month promise and a 5-star safety program.

Firstly, in their new 6-Month promise they pledge that if you do not find someone special by the end of your six-month subscription they promise to give you another six months for free. You should be aware that there are some eligibility criteria. Please see Yahoo! Personals website for full details on ineligibility. In general, new members will be eligible if they post an approved searchable profile and primary photo; and communicate with at least 5 different people each month. But if you’re serious about finding someone special then meeting those kind of criteria should be a piece of cake. If you don’t want to worry about keeping track of your status, you can ask Yahoo! Personals top keep you updated via monthly emails. These kinds of reminders can be important as you must, for example, apply for the 6-month promise by emailing Yahoo! Personals during the 10-days before your subscription automatically renews. If you’re eligible for the 6-Month Promise, you must use it immediately after your paid six-month subscription ends.

  1. Member-Controlled Privacy:
  2. Members can choose whether or not to share their last names, personal email addresses, or contact information with other members. ” Members can also make their profiles private, block selected members from contacting them, and permanently exclude members from their new searches.
  3. Profile Screening:
  4. Many checks are made to ensure that all new profiles comply with the Terms of Service and Member Guidelines. Customer Care agents review profiles and take action against any profiles that are deemed to be in violation of these guidelines.
  5. Mandatory Membership:
  6. After their first profile view, non-members are required to join, accept the Terms of Service , and post a profile before proceeding.
  7. Community Reporting:
  8. If you have a concern, you are encouraged you to report it, via the “report concern” link. Yahoo! Personals take these concerns seriously and are prepared to deactivate the accounts of offending members.
  9. Member Education:
  10. Yahoo! Personals encourage their members to follow their advice on how best to date safely online without undermining the your chances of finding romance.

The only downsides we could find to Yahoo! Personals was that there is no chat room and no forums on the site. Many other dating sites include these features in the hope that their members will feel like part of a vibrant online community. Hopefully Yahoo will include these features at some later date. There are also many ads on the site, from banner ads to sponsored listings. However, this doesn’t intrude on the navigation of the site and is just a minor complaint.

The UK version of Yahoo! Personals is powered by Match, which interestingly enough is our No. 1 rated UK dating site – as well as our No. 1 rated US dating site! (If you’re interested, here are the links to our reviews of Match and Match UK)

All -in-all, we were very impressed with Yahoo! Personals. But with a trusted brand name like Yahoo, over 10 million registered members online, and a free 7-day trial, you’d be a fool not to at least check out who’s online in your area!
